Mowing rookie rear mower

I need a little help. I have a B2910 w/ 72 inch rear finish mower. I can not seem to keep the drive shaft connected to the rear pto. (it my frist time) I can only get it 1/2 way on the pto. I cut some grass, and it falls right off. What step am I missing?

There should be a push button on the yoke that must be depressed then slide the yoke fully onto the PTO shaft. The shaft should have a groove all the way around it that the push button release on the yoke will engage into. Slide the yoke on the shaft till it stops. Then depress the button and push yoke all the way onto shaft and release button. It should lock into that groove and not come off until the button is depressed again. Hope this helps.

I agree with George. At least that's the way my Bush Hog PTO shaft worked. I'm not sure whether the Woods brand has the same thing or whether it has the collar around the end. If it's the collar, then you pull back on the collar and hold it back as you slide the coupler onto the PTO output shaft all the way, release the collar and try to pull the shaft off. Spring loaded balls fit into that groove then instead of the pin.

Either system I always give the pto shaft and tug back and forth to make sure it is locked. That way you don't have to get off and say a few 4 lettered words to put it back on.

I do the same as George and BIRD. that shaft should lock into position. when it slides on right, you should actually hear it click and lock, and not be able to pull it off.

Although you got your answer, I'd like to add that some PTO shafts have collars that turn to disengage the locking balls. Some pull back, as yours does, and some have the pin, like my RM does.
But as Thcri said, please make sure that after you slide it all the way on, let go of the locking collar and pull back on the shaft to make sure it's truly locked on.
TIP: If you have a hard time getting the shaft to line up, use your hand to turn the PTO shaft as you hold the end of the PTO drive up to it, line up the splines and then push it on.
