roof trusses

/ roof trusses #41
Bird,

A permit is definitely required here - I had to "hire" a licensed Professional Engineer to review my plans and sign off on them. The local inspector wouldn't accept a PE from Calif. (Barnplans.com had theirs certified by a Calif. PE) My local inspector seems very happy - the trusses I'm building are designed for 60 psf snow load and my area only requires 25 psf. As far as I can tell - the inspector just wanted to c.h.a. - as he had all of the info regarding the design loads for the trusses. I'm glad that this has worked out - my builder had some ideas for a combination rafter wall/scissor truss combo that might have worked, but the truss company came up with a quote of over $500 per TRUSS if they were to build trusses I wanted.

So far my inspector has been reasonable and it has paid off to be accomodating to his wants - he does want this building to be solid (as do I). The foundation is done and now it is time to build some trusses!
