Just curious what effect , if any, rotating the rake (so that it made windrows) had on collecting more smaller rocks. Did you do that so your hand raking was easier or did you have to hand rake the whole area?

The difficulty is that the 3ph and my rake are nor a great match up. I cant get the 3ph to go down enough so that the rake is level with the ground before the tines hit. If I did the mod that many here have done to their 3ph I will have better luck. What happens is that when the rake is rotated, one end is higher than the other. It's just the geometry of it when the front of the rake is lower than the rear. It will dig in on the forward angled side and the rocks will spill out about halfway down the rake towards the aft side where you would want the windrows because it is higher and not contacting the ground. So in short, that did not work for me. but even if it did work there would have to be some hand raking if you want it real clean. My wife likes the excersize so I run the tractor and she rakes. Gotta love a hard working woman /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, ok, gotcha. Bummer about the rake and the geometry ... but that's why I asked before I took on such a project.

You got me rethinking my rake approach. I think if I extend my toplonk all the way and then raise my gauge wheels I may get enough clearance to get level. I still have my rake on so I will try it out in the next few days and let you know. Worst case scenario I think if I boght a longer toplink it would work out to make windrows. I have a lot of ground left to rake, so it might be worth the effort.

Steve, it's hard to know what's going on when typing words and sometimes pics don't help. Regarding the BX geometry, I did notice a few weeks ago that when I had my 3PH leveled with my BOX blade (in garage on dead level floor) when I changed to my BACK blade and rotated it, I had to adjust my side link height to get it level ... I just figgered the side link loosened up and I had to re adjust ... dunno ... a lot goes on here that I don't understand, and I'm the only one here /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Take a look at this pic. See how the rake is tilted? If I rotate it one side is higher. I think you may be on to something with the tilt. I may have to do a combination of a few things to get it right. Extend the toplink and adjust the side tilt. The underlying problem though is that the tractor sits too low to the ground. A larger tractor wouldn't have this issue.

That's strange. When I posted, I refreshed and went to look and it was there on the post. Maybe my service for webpages doesn't like hot linking. Anyway All I was posting was the third picture in the link at the beginning of this post. It shows the angle of attack for the rake. Ok, pic 3. I can sure see why it's not working for ya. Mine was that way too before I drilled my links ... which I had to do early on. I'm confident that the tilt adj will fix it but the amount of tilt needed will vary, infinately, depending on the height you drag the rake at. But, with the gauge wheels that shouldn't be a prob /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am welding challenged, so I designed and my BIL welded. You said you drilled your links. Did you drill the lower links or the rods which attach to the pivot arms? I have seen hernro's post about drilling the rods, but haven't seen the links drilled. Think you could post a pic?

Anyway, the new holes are offset 1-1/2" on the lower links and the shackles. Note that for my equip I added a hole in the shackle at 3/4" from original cuz the 1-1/2" limited my lifting height too much.
10-4 on the gauge wheels. Nice design! WHERE did you get the wheels?! I need to do that fab job but wonder what wheels hold up under torture.

So do yopu find that you only use the hole at 3/4? looks to me that you added a hole to the shackle and the arm. Correct? Is the new hole on the arm the back one?
I bought the wheels from harbor freight. They were about 15 bucks each. They have grease zerks, are swivel castor and have tubes. They are holding up well. Thanks for the pic!

Yes, I haven't changed my setup since I found the sweet spot: 1-1/2" hole on the lower arms; 3/4" hole on the shackle. (drilled both)

The chains are to limit the 3PH height for use with the bush hog. I keep the 3PH control lever in the full down position but use the chains ... ie, chains are always tight.
