Anybody thought about building a rick picker or rock bucket/scoop?

I know of somebody who tried to build a rock picker starting with an old 3 pt snowblower. Not an unqualified success. I won't be trying it that way.

I might be happy enough with a 3 pt scoop that would let dirt pass through and trap the rocks. Anybody know a good (and cheap) way to build one?

There was a discusson about building something for picking up large rocks to help in building a stone wall. It sounds like you want to screen smaller rocks out of dirt you are scooping. Can you say more about the task?

Not sure if you have seen these commercial units but just in case you haven't thought it might help trigger some ideas.

I have several tasks in mind, including removing rocks down to about 1 inch from several acres of potential lawn, and removing larger stones from a somewhat contaminated bed of manufactured sand used for footing. It kind of depends on what I come up with. I may just try sieving the footing if I can't come up with something better. There is only 30 tons so it's not like I have a lot.

I wonder if a loam screener like http://www.u-screen.com/ might work? I wonder if you can rent something like this?
