So, there are normally TWO 12V batteries in there?
It looks good, Cyril. Did you take it to an auto body shop? What did they
charge for the fabrication?
Yes my deisel 2240 uses two batteries.
I took the cowl to a shop I have been dealing with professionally for about 20 years and over the years the ower and I have become friends. They are one of only three fabrication shops in Washington State which are approved by the state for making repairs/modifications to traffic signal poles (liability issues if repairs were to fail). As far as the cost, I don't know yet. He told me not to worry about it, we would figure it out later. Anyone else, I would be concerned, but I've known him a long time and he has never done me wrong. In fact, when I wanted to get a flag pole for my farm, I took three different sized aluminum street light poles to him and asked him to combine them to give me the tallest flag pole possible considering the loading for a 8x12 flag. I told him there was no rush and they could just work on it whenever they were slow and needed something to do. Two years later, he called me to pick up my 52ft flag pole. When I asked the cost, he told me that it was on the house since it took him two years to get around to it. When I insisted on paying he refused. I'm guessing the refabrication of the cowl will be somewhere between $100-200, but I really don't know. It could be less, or even free knowing James. I would be really suprised if it were more. But even at $200 I feel that it would be a deal since Deere wants $1210 for a new cowl.
There is still one more piece to weld onto the cowl for a throttle linkage spring which was missing when I took it apart. I noticed the spring in the parts breakdown in the manual while the cowl was being worked on. I need to get an attachment point welded onto the bottom of the cowl so that I can replace the spring. Now that I have the cowl back (and whats left of the old bottom), I found where the spring is suppose to attach. It had rusted through resulting in the spring being lost.
This weekend, I'm planning on purchasing a bead blaster from Harbor Freight (25% off coupon for New Years Day) to sand blast the rest of the cowl before repainting. There's still some rust I want to remove near the bottom that was replaced.
