The wiring on my 20-year-old Antonio Carraro Tigertrac 3800 needs to be rejuvenated. In several cases the insulation on individual wires is broken. In addition, the "socks" that protect wire bundles is in several cases broken.

What I am looking for is a tape that will do a better job than normal black electrical tape, which tends to unravel. Any suggestions?

For a temporary repair use black tape. Don't pull it too tight and it won't unravel. Cover it with new "socks" split loom and you'll be ok for a few years. If you want to do a top notch job buy some quality wire and rewire the whole tractor. I like to solder all my connections as that way I know they won't corrode or come apart. Soldering and heat shrink takes time but I'm getting close to ten years on some stock trailers that I've rewired with no repairs. Even on the electric brakes.
