"How to make friends and succeed in business..."We have the opposite near my WA place… a small gas station with general store with a little bit of everything…
The folks are so nice… even letting oversized parcels be dropped off and offer free coffee that the locals really support it… gas is 10 cents a gallon more but keeps me from driving the 20 mile round trip to town.
I don't get the hate on self checkout. To me it's way more convenient than standing in line (and without fail, get in the line with the slowest cashier). I'm smart enough to figure out the scanner. Scan, pay, get on my way.
Do you pump your own gas? If so, what's the difference? You're not an employee of the gas station either.
45 minutes doing what?also not spending 45 minutes, i spend about 30 seconds to do gas.
You’ll show them won’t you!Warrenton Virgina added a "visitors tax" to our restaurant bill last year. I will never spend another dime there.
The last time I was in HD was 4 weekends ago... at about noontime Saturday. They had 2 self serve islands open, and a register in the garden section. I looked at the lines, then looked at the hose repair ends I was holding- and suddenly realized that I didn't need them after all.I’m usually the only one at the self checkout in my closest Home Depot
We also only have self checkout except for the return desk, garden and contractor desks… at least it’s been this way but I heard there might be a law mandating a minimum ratio of cashiers to self checkout?I agree. I don’t ever go to walmart but our little grocery store has self checkout, I’m way quicker than many of them because I want to get out of there and I was running a cash register at my second job about 47 years ago.

The local Walmart here just pulled out all the self checkout registers. Not sure why, or if it is being done corporate wide.We also only have self checkout except for the return desk, garden and contractor desks… at least it’s been this way but I heard there might be a law mandating a minimum ratio of cashiers to self checkout?
I believe Walmart is cutting back on the self-checkouts. The theft through the self-checkout lines has been astronomical. The local Walmart here just pulled out all the self checkout registers. Not sure why, or if it is being done corporate wide.
I would imagine it's in stores/regions with high amounts of theft.I just checked online and you're right. Walmart is removing self checkouts in selected stores, not corporate wide.
Theft is definitely a factor in certain locations. As long as it doesn't exceed the savings in employee reduction allowed by these self checkouts, they will remain in place.
