I finally have the parking brakes nearly finished up. I have all the cables installed and routed, just waiting on a 1/4"-28 bottoming tap to show up so I can finish tapping the set screw holes in the block I am using to connect the left and right cables together, similar to the factory setup. I also made and installed a couple of brackets to hold the cable housings from rubbing on anything.
Today I decided to bring the tires down from up on the deck, carefully slid them down the staircase without any issues. I installed the right rear tire on the car, just to make sure there was no interference with the parking brake cable, and everything has plenty of clearance. Should of taken a picture, but I didn't think about it until I had taken it back off again.
I tool the trim rings and center caps off, and looking them over, decided to get the wheels blasted and powder coated argent silver. No use restoring everything else on the car and leting the shabby looking wheels slide. In for a nickel, in for a couple of C-notes, I guess. So, I loaded them all up in the truck and went to my local tire store and had them dismount the tires, which they sold to me in 2011. They still look brand new, having been stored inside, no dry rot or checking whatever. They were even sill inflated to almost 30psi, so they obviously have no leaks.
I ordered the argent silver powder, and it should be here in a day or two. Once it comes, I'll take them to the powder coat shop and they'll make them look like new. I also ordered a masking kit, so I can paint the recessed areas black like the are now. I'm going to ask the powder coater if there is any way to do the black in powder coat, but I don't think there is, unless they can apply the silver, bake it, install the masks, apply black powder, remove the masks and then bake the black powder. Don't know, but I'm going to ask.
Later this week, maybe on Friday, I'm going to see if my friends Van and Brian can come over and give me a hand installing the hood and getting it aligned. That will be a good feeling to get it on and looking more like a finished car.

Comin' around the bend....

Awesome, getting closer and closer to the finish line. Happy to see you are getting the wheels powder coated. Such a beautiful car deserves the last few finishing touches to match the rest of your build.

You can take a regular tap and cut it in half and you have a bottom tap.
I thought about that, but then I would still have to buy a new tap, so I just figured I'd get the proper tap to begin with. I have other things to do until the tap gets here.
Of course, when I order from McMaster-Carr I usually get the parts the next day or so, since they come out of Chicago, but for some reason, this order was shipped out of Goodyear, AZ, near Phoenix and won't be here until Friday. Go figure.

Oh ok I didn't know if that's all you were waiting on. I've cut the end off of many taps to get threads to the bottom when I didn't have a bottom tap.

I have a couple of bottoming taps, but not a 1/4"-28, of course.

Yes, down on the south side of town, but I have had some bad service there, so I'm not going back. Prices are higher than McMaster-Carr, too.
