In the PNW I had to recoat the inside of my fuel tank. bought some POR to do it worked great. One thing I found was my batter tray had some serious rust. was quite surprised. POR'd it as well.

I think mine is:
-due to battery acid on bare metal
-due to paint loss
-due to battery vibration that wore the paint off
-due to kinda funky factory battery hold down strap that allowed the battery to bounce around.

I've since remedied the hold down strap.

Ok, I will bite. What did you do to the hold down strap?

Bungee cords.... hahahaa, no.

I found the metal strap they provided with a skinny long bolt and nut that was accessed through one of the rear cutouts, well, that strap had a weird angle bent into it, did not fit the battery correctly, and, if I put it on and tightened the nut it would crack the battery case. I re-bent the strap and got a different bolt and nut and made it fit better. Put some rubber between the battery case and the metal strap, too. I've never had a machine that had a strap AROUND the battery. It's always either been over the top, or a bracket that grabs the bottom edge of the case. I may still change it around someday to a strap over the top.

Now that you mention the battery strap around the battery, it is weird.

I added some rubber between the strap and the battery case for a better friction fit. It has never come loose, but then again, I haven't rolled my tractor yet.

All the best, Peter

My strap actually vibrated a crack into the battery case. It was hard starting. I popped the covers on the battery, and there was no visible acid. Yikes! Found a crack right where the strap goes around.

Thanks for the reply. I might do something about this. I think a pad of some kitchen under it would help too. It gets bounced around a lot.

My battery has 1/4 rubber pad as a base and back in the metal tray to reduce vibration.

I don't know about Carl, but I got mine from the hardware store; 3/16" fiber reinforced rubber sheet, cut to size to go under and up one side of the battery.

All the best, Peter

I think I used some old inner tube or something. Heck, I'd have to look. It's one of those things that if I don't need it, I purge it from my brain. I got too much old stuff in there as it is. I tend to let stuff like that go, because I can go look directly at it if I need to remember it.

Kinda like math formulas.... I know where to find them if I need them, so I don't have to remember them. ;)

I agree.

My great nephew is here this week to learn stuff. I taught him about electricity and how to use a multimeter. We changed the oil in our van. We cut up a log of cherry and built some phone stands. We forged a knife today from a railroad spike. But what he loves the most is playing with the Power Trac. Today he mowed my lawn and took two trips through the woods behind my house. Tomorrow we will grind stumps and change the generator oil. We also plan to haul a dead tree out of the woods. He is wearing me out, but what a wonderful opportunity to teach him some skills.
