I should have DDS after my name after pulling this little walnut! I tried a couple of weeks ago and gave up. We got a good rain so I thought I'd try again. It still took some back and forth but finally! View attachment 601361

Wish I had a few of those.....

Looks like you used a tree puller....what kind do you have?

Lots of different devices and ideas here including many the OP stated they don't want to use because of the spikes left behind.

But one from some other threads comes to mind. One of those two part FEL buckets (can't remember what they're called now -- 4 way?) Half of the bucket opens like a giant jaw; sort of like a bucket and grapple combined.. Open it, grab some of the saplings, close it and lift. With sufficient lifting capacity and soft, damp ground, it might work well.

I have a 10' long 5/16" or 3/8" chain with slip hooks on both ends, use it as a choker and hook the other end to something sturdy on the tractor... I've pulled 30+ grape plants with it and a 1" scotch broom or 3 so it's pretty versatile... when some of the grape plants broke off 3" off the ground I was able to grab what was left and get it once I got the chain low enough...
