Backhoe Removing backhoe bushings

I found the swing pivot bushings on my Woods 9000 backhoe damaged when I pulled the main pins this past weekend. One is particulary trashed with a gap in the teflon (or whatever is in there) about a third of the way around. Can they be punched out (like motorcycle wheel bearings), or do they have to be pressed? Any good backyard methods of changing them?

Jay, I never have learned how to link to other threads but if you do a search for “Replacing hoe pins and bushings” you’ll find some ideas guys gave me. I’ve yet to do it myself so I don’t have any practical experience to share. Maybe the thread will give you some ideas.

I found your thread - it sounds like the bushings can be pressed out just like on a dirtbike. I'm no stranger to making pullers/pushers, but I've never done it for anything this big . If they can be pressed out with a threaded-rod puller, I'd wager that they could be tapped out with a punch too.

I was thinking about you making a home made puller. You just need a threaded rod (1" or so) and several larger washers, 1 steel plate with a hole in it and several nuts. The force from a threaded rod works really well for pulling stuck hardware.

Let me know if you get the bushing out.
