Yup, if he wants to learn about tractors, figuring out acronyms is a good start. Why spoon-feed newbies, what are they, little babies? Although, technically speaking, unless the abbreviation actually spells out a word, it's really an initial-ism. But, I never speak technically, only from the seat of my pants. Or should I say through the seat of my pants.

You know, I laughed, hard and early at the funny post's but most of the time I actually make an effort to spell out the words, and use the acronym purposefully to help educate newcomers. But still some of these posts have been pretty funny..

I think that's just the question; and it's really up to the poster to make that determination. I admit, I don't know what FEL means, and if you are only addressing the more sophisticated readers in your audience, then it matters not.

Refrain from abbreviating in threads without introducing abbreviations first: Power Take Off (PTO), Ratchet Rake (RR), Front End Loader (FEL), Bush Hog (BH), Rotary Cutter (RC) Finish Mower (FM) etc.

Abbreviations without introductions are confusing, especially for tractor novices seeking input, which is a substantial portion of viewers. It only takes a few extra seconds to make your intent clear..... for..... 300, 400, 500 viewers.

FWIW the use of all caps is rude, obnoxious, and should be banned, IMHO.

I'm beginning to think that's the point. I have used, and heard the term "Front End Loader" many times in conversation, but I have never heard it called a FEL. A Power Take Off, on the other hand, is more often than not referred to as a "PTO" in conversation. The abbreviations must be a phenomenon that has arisen with the advent of "texting" and internet forums.

besides.. it generally puts you into a better bargaining position if you can refute and prove wrong 95% of the BS the owner was told when he got taken buying it, and is now trying to smear on you like butter on bread...
