Tractor
Kubota Tractor Loader L3560 HST+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3,700 pounds bare tractor, 5,400 pounds operating weight, 37 horsepower
Refrain from abbreviating in threads without introducing abbreviations first: Power Take Off (PTO), Ratchet Rake (RR), Front End Loader (FEL), Bush Hog (BH), Rotary Cutter (RC) Finish Mower (FM) etc.

Abbreviations without introductions are confusing, especially for tractor novices seeking input, which is a substantial portion of viewers. It only takes a few extra seconds to make your intent clear..... for..... 300, 400, 500 viewers.

What does one do when posting an abbreviation like BS, regarding another post?:D

Yeah WTF. JMHO but I agree with the OP, abbreviations r a PITA. BTW, AFAIK if people would PLZ just RTM, much confusion would be avoided. THX

Now thats funny:laughing:

To abbreviate or not is depended on the context of the thread.

IE: if I am responding to a newbies question, I will try to refrain.

But if I am jumping in late in a thread, or responding/replying to someone who has been around here for awhile, I'll abbreviate all I can. It saves time. And I already dont have enough time to read 1/10th of 1% of the threads on here

Why not have a sticky that lays out most of the common ones? Like, Power Take Off (PTO), Ratchet Rake (RR), Front End Loader (FEL), Bush Hog (BH), Rotary Cutter (RC) Finish Mower (FM) etc.

Dang, it. you should warn a guy before you post something that funny.. Now I have to clean up the water I blew thru my nose at the computer screen... I am still laughing.

No TLA's? Oh my... :D The company I work at is one of the biggest computer chip makers. There are soooooo many TLA's here. And some TLA's are diffferent between divisions. A lot of tractor stuff is TLA ie FEL, PTO, TPH.

So then you should leave the thread (or open another window), to get the answer and then go back to that post to be able to understand the thread? Or maybe set aside some time to memorize them all so you'll be prepared if they should show up in something you are reading?

I agree that it only takes a few seconds, & seems like a common courtesy.

No longer a newbie, but I have opened a thread or two thinking BH meant Bush Hog when it really meant Back Hoe.

And Bush Hog is a brand not an attachment.

Worth consideration, but is it too much to expect that someone looking to buy a tractor would have done enough research to be familiar with the basic abbreviations? I certainly have no problem explaining an abbreviation, but typing everything out on the chance someone doesn't know them may be more than I am willing to do.

This is just so FUBAR that I'm LMAO.

I will say that on in particular....PTO....is probably understood better by a newbie than what it actually means.

If you asked a newbie what a power-take-off was, I bet 99% of them would be clueless. But most would have a basic understanding if you just said PTO.
