Hello, I replaced the seals in my hydrostatic unit in my Ford 1620 the other night and am now almost done putting her back together. Now my question is when I refill up the tractor with hydraulic fluid will it just prime itself and purge all the air out of the piping on its own? I am just worried about not having any fluid in the pump to begin with... Do I fill her up and the just start the tractor and wait for it to circulate? I don't want to burn anything up. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Almost every tractor I've owned I just filled it with new oil to the proper level, started the engine then idled it for maybe 30 seconds, then checked for proper operation, then re-checked the fluid level.

I did have a small Kubota that once didn't pick up prime so I had to use a little air pressure with a rag wrapped around the nozzle to put some positive air pressure into the case, but that only happened once over several years and several hydraulic changes.
