Got an issue I need help with on my 464 diesel. Changed hydraulic filter and noticed the screen was gummy and the oil was not amazing looking, more crummy in the filter housing than the actual drains. Figured I’d drain all fluid and put in fresh.

Replaced filter and fluid, now no hydraulics. 1600rpm for 3 minutes to prime while working 3 point, zero pressure on 3 point and checked power steering and it’s hard as a rock.

Took off line under filter housing and ran for 3 minutes, very slow dribble of fluid out of that line then re-attached…nothing.

Any ideas or help? Was working mostly fine before today.

My idea would be a loss of prime since you completely drained the reservoir.

Not uncommon. Some of those older IH tractors can be a royal pain to get primed once you remove the filter and drain the housing. My advise would be add another four or five gallons of fluid. That will "flood the zone" and help fill the passages to the pump. Wouldn't hurt to do that then let it sit overnight before trying it again.

Harry in Kentucky. The approach I would take would be with shop air. If done correctly it works. But you can’t allow the tank to build pressure, or it could be hazardous. So I didn’t suggest this in an earlier post. But that pump has got to get oil some way. It may have an external line that could be primed with
