It's snow moving season here. The area I plow is very not square or flat! I have a snow blade on the front with the third function for left and right angle adjustments. Works great! I currently leave my box blade on for the winter because I can back right up to the edge of a building or whatever and drag that snow out to the center and then push it with the blade. I'd like to get a spreader for tossing sand to help with traction but I'd really like to keep the box blade on. If I have to, I'll pull the box blade off and just drag the snow away from the edges.

Anyone know of a spreader that could somehow be mounted and used while the box blade is installed??? I've looked and haven't seen anything besides 3pt pto powered.

thoughts -> I kinda wonder about somehow mounting one of the spreaders designed for a pickup tailgate on top of my box blade. Building a frame out of steel and having that removable for summer usage. Possibly using a spreader designed for a utv or something designed to slip into a receiver hitch on a pickup. I don't need a huge capacity, I have one area maybe 600 sq ft that is 'steep' and always slick.

This model is a receiver mount. I could weld a section of receiver stock onto my box blade. That would be handy for moving trailers around also....

I like your idea and that is exactly what I would do.

Can you mount the spreader so that it will not interfere with backing up to buildings to pull the snow away with the box blade? If not are you gaining anything by having the box blade a spreader both?

I would just mount the receiver up high, somewhere in the middle of the box blade, like right up in the middle of the "A" frame. Then the rear of the spreader would be roughly even with the rear of the box blade.

It might be easier to spread sand by hand on a 600 sf area. Driving on this area will even out any irregularities due to hand spreading.
