REAR REMOTE DETENT

My dealer is installing rear remote for controlling grapple. He says NH does not have a remote with detent to use for this. Is there any benefit to having a detent for grapple control?? I was thinking that if I went to electronic valve control on loader stick later on to control that circuit, that the rear remote would have to be open and stay that way for downstream control to work.

Why would you ever want a detent position for a grapple? A detent position usually holds one side of the spool always open. A remote is the spool work ports of a valve.

Why don't you just get an electronic solenoid diverter and use it off the loader valve's dump/curl spool, or add a third function electronic soleniod valve in series with the loader valve and your remote valve (not the remote connections). Using a remote the way you envision is not an efficient or cost effective way to plumb a grapple.

The dealer is installing a remote spool valve that will directly control your grapple, much in the same manner as a manual third function valve would. No need for anything electronic. You move the remote lever one way to open the grapple and the other way to close it.

If you want a switch button on the joystick then you made the wrong choice by using the remote.

A factory installed remote with detent is designed for operating spray pumps or other equipment requiring constant flow.
My unit has two plumbed remotes with detents, control levers beside seat, (makes it easy to plumb grapple), I can hit detent and still adjust rake position as grapple is closing or opening, very handy when raking roots moving forward. You release detent when grapple full travel is reached, for a short time you can leave lever in detent, (when needed) to hold items that will move or change to prevent dropping them when transporting.

Mad has a good suggestion for you on solenoid set up.

That's what I was afraid of--wrong choice. I could always use the rear remote for future hydraulic toplink installation and add joystick switch controlled electonic valve to control grapple off the loader circuit. Thanks for setting me straight.

Now you have to figure out if you want the third function valve or the diverter off the curl/dump. Price difference is about $100. There are plenty of posts explaining the difference between the two. A little searching and you will find them.

Hmm.. that doesn't sound right. my NH remotes had detent for lift / drop and they automatically center when the cyl reaches max travel. they also have a float setting ( full forward ).. these are the deluxe remotes on my 7610s

NH does indeed make a remote with a detent. not sure what your dealer was trying to say?

NH does indeed make a remote with a detent. not sure what your dealer was trying to say?

Yes, but maybe not for every model tractor. Remotes for CUTS usually have no detents except for float (when available) and center position.
