I know I should have kept one of my old seals when I had the shop take them out, unfortunately I was in a hurry and forgot to take one. I took the hub to Auto Zone and their eye glazed over when I couldn't give them the number off the old seal. The spindle is 1 3/8" and the holes in the hub is just over 2.5". What size seal do I ask for?

Use a set of vernier calipers to measure the spindle were the seal rides, this will give you the I.D. For the seal , them measure to inside of the hub were the seal sets, this will give you the O.D. Of the seal. Then take those numbers to a reputable parts store, not auto zone. Another way is to remove a hub still on the trailer, clean off the seal face and get the number from it.

Go to a trailer supply, if you have any kind of standard axle they will have the seal.

Pretty standard by axle weight rating.

There should be a number on your seals. Since you dont have them you will have to use a caliper to measure.

Tractor supply dosnt have everything, the internet does.

So after doing the horse trailer earlier this month I finally got around to working on the flatbed. Once again the rear seals would not come out even with the seal puller. This time I ended up cutting and beating on them until they relented. I measured the spindle and the hub opening and sure enough they were the same as the ones on the horse trailer. This time I went to the Parts Plus guy and he at least knew enough to get a book out to look them up. In the end he didn't have any which didn't surprise me but I was hoping. So off I went to the RV store. I walk in and told him I need rear grease seals for a 3500lb axle. He doesn't ask anything else and just says you have two choices. He goes in back and comes back out with two boxes. One box contained the seals I needed and the other box had seals that were significantly bigger. I knew this shouldn't have been that hard. They ended up being only $1 more than I could get them from Amazon.
