rear 3pt blower

Was just looking at the Provost blowers. What do you like about them? They seem mighty lightweight in all regards, only 413 lb. for 64" width. A 60" Woodmax weighs 650, due to heavier metal used all 'round.

WinterDeere, I wonder if flyingcrow meant to refer to Pronovost. Their 68" blower is 707# and 62" is 575#.

I checked out their website MK Martin | Meteor Snow Blowers and it seems that the only chute rotation they seem to offer is manual and hydraulic....after re-reading Sarg's post I see that the Superwinch was apparently a modification.

When I purchased the 51" they offered manual, hydraulic or electric power on the chute.

I checked out Meteor, and was thoroughly unimpressed. At 396 lb., more than 100 lb. lighter than the average, and they have smaller augers and fans than most blowers, although strangely they recommend much higher horsepower to run than the equivalent Woods. It also wasn't clear what "Weld on" skid shoes meant... are they adjustable? Does the customer have to weld them on himself?

I've not seen too much bad press about Woods or Frontier. Why buy a Meteor?

WinterDeere, the weld-on skid shoes are flat bars welded to the sides. You can see them in the photo on this page:

http://mkmartin.ca/products.php

Meteor also has optional adjustable skid shoes for $119 (last year). They are round disks on square tubing similar to those found on truck mounted blades.

I agree--the horsepower recommendations are confusing. My 75" pull-type recommends 50 hp. My DK35 is only 28 hp PTO. My dealer assured me it would easily handle the blower, and that proved to be the case(for my conditions). I wonder if the 50 hp is a Maximum rating since it would be easy to over stress components with too much power.

Some manufacturers give minimum and maximum ratings.

I had a 75" Meteor rear blower on my 2120 for a few years, not a bad unit, but not that great either. Had to drill more adjusting holes in the spout, the factory ones just wouldn't put the snow in the "right" place.
Finially got tired of having a sore back and neck evertyime I used it, went back to the front blower on my 955.

I have a pronovost Puma64 on my CK30 gear, and all i can say is that i'll entirely satisfied, this thing really blows snow and will last a very long time. CK 30 avec equipements 005.JPGCK 30 avec equipements 004.JPG001.JPG Price isn't a thing to consider when wanting quality/durability in my op.

Yet you bought a budget blower. If price was no object, you'd have bought the similarly-sized Pronovost P-620. :stirthepot:

Actually the Puma isn't a budget blower, same thing as a regular Pronovost but without the chain garde, semi-ind chute, bolted wear bar, well that's the dealer had to say:rolleyes:. Could simply not justify the 1100$ difference. My CK30 is only a spare snow tractor. But now how's this blowerKioti DK45SE 002.JPG

Just taking a jab for fun. I actually considered a PUMA-64, but went with the Woods because they offer a less expensive route (electric) for chute controls. Had Pronovost offered electric chute rotation and deflector, I'd very likely have switched to them, when Deere called me back to tell me they could only get the Woods in orange. Pronovost currently has a PUMA-64 sitting in their facility already painted Deere green.

Price on the Woods SB64S and Pronovost PUMA-64 was basically the same, but I'd have had some freight charges on the PUMA, whereas the Woods was already sitting in the lot at my Deere dealer.

Hey guys,
With winter coming up on toying with blowing vs pushing snow this winter.
Who makes the best cheaper rear blower? What can i expect to pay for a 60" rear 3-point blower?
Thanks everyone.

With a new EXPENSIVE 3320 cabbed JD why would one want to stretch your neck and drive backwards ? Get with the program and find a 59" front snowblower. Add wings if you feel it is too narrow but this is the ticket. After a couple trips up the drive twisted around dodging things you thought you saw ......... the light bulb will go on ( I could have had a V-8 ) noooo, why didn't I try out a front mounted unit ? I can't imagine going back to old technology... even to save a couple bucks.

In my case:

Rear mounted blower: $2500
Front mounted blower: $6200

A couple of bucks?

I did search a while for a second hand front-mount blower with mounts to fit my machine. With one exception, which I missed by a few hours thanks to Hurricane Sandy, only ones I found were missing the mount and hardware ($1200 for the mount, a few hundred more for the driveshaft and bearing carrier), beat to ****, or not local. In the end, it became impossible to justify the added cost of front mounted, for someone who only puts a few hours a year on their snowblower.

There are Kia buyers and those who prefer Cadillacs. If you want to look backwards for the next twenty years the neck brace is up to you. The owner with a fancy new JD with a living room comfort cab doesn't see the value in the attachment the machine is built for he certainly needs to reread the brochure.
I purchased a 59" front mount for half of what a new cheap rear mount costs. It's 3 years old and barely used. Nothing wrong with used if it is in good condition and priced accordingly. Yes I think five grand is too much but that is JDs msrp. I was not going to settle for pain killers and a drivers obstacle course lesson.
There are also posts on how to repair 1980s or older tractors. I prefer the new. No desire to replace clutches, bearings, and the like. It's up to the individual with the wallet and his interpretation of thrift.

And after tearing the Meteor Blower apart I now realize the Canadians seem to build like the Chinese. Tolerances don't seem to be part of the program ........ If it don't fit - Force it .... Seems to be the method used.

$2300. I wish I could re-spend.

Yup,

US manufacturing tolerances are so much better...look at the big 3 automakers lol.

Wonder why most things are now built in China!

A properly placed rear view mirror (18.00 before shipping from Summit) can go a long way with a rear mounted blower........

A better investment is an pull type blower. Had one for 30 years, never got stuck. And before anyone starts, they are extremely popular in Quebec, and many areas get more snow in one winter than most areas get in 5 years.

Next will be pull type.

Easy there. You sound like a lib - your way or the highway? Give me a break.

There are a lot of 3pt blower owners out there in tractor-land.

Here's a news flash. Used front mount blowers aren't all that easy to find in some parts of the country. New front blowers are WAY more than a couple bucks more than 3pt blowers.

So get off your high horse. :irked:

Correct! Over $5,000 for a new front mount vs $3,000 for a new pull type. Tons of used pull types, used front mounts are rare!!

Amen, bandit67. Well said.

Word I've read and heard (many times) is that a pull type ain't so useful for someone with a compact utility. A bigger tractor, yes... but a compact utility, no.
