I always add fibers to my mix at the plant. Cheap insurance, fibers come in a variety of materials from synthetic to stainless steel.
I once called a professor that invented a fiber for concrete ( amazing hoe one can just call a college professor and he will spend as much time as you want with you.) anyway this guy was an engineer and came up with his fibers and a way to 努rap current bridge pillars to secure them for earthquakes.
When I started using fibers I never even get a crack and on one side walk pour to test my theory I never put in any expansion joints, and not a crack.
I think last time I added fibers to a pour it was $5.00 a yard.
