I am trying to figure out the logic of the yellow squares ahead of the names of the subjects and the posts. Just when I think I have it figured out, something seems to happen that changes my conclusion. Usually, when I read a post the yellow 'light' goes out in the square. But some time later (day?), the 'light' comes back on. Sometimes there isn't a light, and I know that I have not read the post. Another theory out the window. It may be a signal for something else, however seems to me it is a way of quickly scanning the forum messages to determine which ones have been read and which ones have not. I would like it to have a variable time lapse (I would select a long one, at least a week).
Additionally, and something you may be working on, would be a way to increase the highlighting of previously read posts.
Just FYI, hopefully not taken as criticism of an excellent site, thanks to everyone.

That's all part of the display of new messages since you last marked that particular forum read. The background colors on those links are changed, the links are bold, and the folders are yellow, as well as the display of the number of new messages in each thread. This of course makes the other links look somewhat understated, since the new messages are brought out so much with highlighting and bolding.
