rattle at idle?

After first mowing of the year, which the 1042 did a great job with its new Gator blades, when I shut the mower deck down and was just sitting there, it was making an extremly loud rattle. I mean it sounded like something was going to fly off! It runs fine, mows fine, just makes that rattle at idle, any ideas?

Is the rattle with the deck engaged or disengaged? This could be a spring loaded tensioner banging/jumping.

It is with deck disengaged

i have a 1042 mine rattles at idle also. the heat shield on the muffler is what it was on mine. you might want to check there.

Good call on the heat shielding. I know the pc that covers the header pipe on my 2544 wiggles pretty good at idle even though it's screwed tight.

Jacks site for the blade is about $12 and his shipping is about the lowest.
His site also has all the dimensions listed.

After some checking, the 1042 uses the same blades as the 2542, which I have.
The 3in1 mulching blade listed in the manual has been updated to 759-04081.
