We want to finish the yard behind the house.

We do a lot of work and nothing is flat anymore. Weed have grown everywhere.

Did a ratchet rake will help to flaten the yard and deal with the weeds clumps.

Dont want to buy something just to discover it not the right tool.

I have a backblade too, but I think the weeds clumps will make big tracks.

The ratchet rake will help to get the weed clumps up out of the ground but it’s not going to level the ground. I use mine to scratch around piling up weeds, sticks and brush then use the grapple to move all of that to the burn pile.

When a rear wheel encounters a dip or bump, the ratchet rake will duplicate it.

I use a rear blade, reversed, with the tilt pin removed, to smooth dirt.

Would a ratchet rake in float mode provide some leveling ie knocking off high spots and filling in low spots?

I would expect it to rake high and low spots equally when in float, unless the spots were smaller than the width of the rake. It would probably be better to straddle a high ridge and rake the length of it.

Compare it to using a stiff rake to level a washboard road. If you just drag it in the direction of travel it won't do much.

My goal with the ratchet rake is to remove the layer of weed without removing a lot of dirt like I will do if I remove 2 inches of dirt everywhere.

If it loossen the dirt on thee surface, it will be a bonus.

After, I will level the yard with the bucket and the blade.

BTW A excavator operator give me a good trick when you move a lot of material on a rough terrain. When you get back empty, leave your bucket backdraging in float. This way, everytime you pass, you fill some void without loosing machine time. Efficiency!
