I've mainly gotten away from Amazon. I've found that by looking around, I usually can find items with comparable pricing, without paying a fee to save money. I always have had an issue with that concept.
I generally don't pay shipping fees, no matter who I am buying from. If I place an order for anything it's enough so that they cover it. I'm also not tied to doing business with one company.I've always looked at the Prime fee like pre-paying the shipping fees and saving a bunch if you ordered more than 20-25 items a yr and we do that.
It sounds like you're saying there's no such thing as a free ride!!!!One thing that it seems many people don't realize is that many different small businesses use Amazon as there selling place.
You are buying it through Amazon but often but certainly not always it is coming from a small business.
When doing small purchases from small businesses someone is paying the shipping charges either directly or through the item markup.
When I'm at my Alexandria, Va address (where I was up till mid December) I could often get items such as small tools and hardware in the next morning delivery. I've a home on a small court (6 houses beyond me) and Amazon LABELED trucks were often a twice a day occurrence. Is anyone still getting 1-2 day Amazon Prime delivery? When we're up in NH we rarely got things in less than 4 days but I expected that down here in Florida it'd be what it was in the past, 1-2 days. Nope, this year it's 7-8 days. Time to get out of the $139 membership.
You mean like thisI have a ”job box” mounted out by my mail box, 48X36X36. 4-inch letters saying
”Parcel Box”
”USPS, UPS, FedEX”
“Leave parcels here”
And, I go into the relevant phone app, when I get a shipment notification, and filll out the delivery instructions, telling them to leave the inbound package in the box.
I’ve been out of town for the week, for training. Got home about 30-minutes ago. The Post Office left a package lying on the lid, on Monday. It was still there covered in 4-inches of snow. Luckily it was well packed, and no harm was done.
But it does leave me a bit tweaked.

I'm not sure the vendor necessarily comes out ahead by going it alone. There's the expense and hassle of maintaining your own website, with secure payment and keeping inventory updated. I don't know how shipping fees compare if you're a third party selling via Amazon's site vs as an independent...do you get a lower shipping rate by being affiliated with Az? Then there's just the hesitancy many buyers may feel when buying online from a vendor who's an unknown entity. It sounds like you're saying there's no such thing as a free ride!!!!
One reason I try to deal outside of Amazon is to try to keep more money in the vendor's pocket.
