Looks nice- when I walk along the woods and see the old wide stone walls- it is a reminder of what once was. There is a lot of history in the land!

It didn't have card games, but the small general store near my Grandmother's farm was similarly the social centre of the town. That one is long closed, but it's good to see this one still ticking along....

^ Another place I'd like to ramble up to, grab a coffee, and watch a few hands being played.....

Talking about pie, stones, old and out of the way....

Famous Louise’s Rock House Restaurant

This place has existed for a long time by US standards. Years ago we were sight seeing in the mountains and ran across this place. One of the unique things about the building is that it is in not one, not two but three counties! Seems like we ate in one county, had to cross a second county to get to the bathroom that was in a third county. The building is all made of stone and it pretty neat looking.

Food was great! I knew walking in that I would have to have the fried chicken and I was right. They did good fried chicken. Then there was the pie. It was all home made of course and they had about six different pies. I did not order too much for lunch so I could have a couple slices of pies for dessert.:licking::licking::licking: We went back the next day for more pie :D, oh yea, I got meat loaf since I knew it would be good. I think the second day I got three slices of pie.:laughing::laughing:

I just finished eating before I read your post...... got hungry all over again !

Reminds me of the local-made pies at the Fall Fair near my Grandmother's farm. The worst pie in the place had pastry that was still 10x better than the cardboard sitting underneath the filling in commercial pies today...... heck, if I could hop in a time machine, I'd go back to eat the pastry alone !

I better take a break from this thread.... gonna be gaining weight !

(got the hebeejeebies thinking about building that today....... 3 counties ! At least up here, it would take way longer to pull all those permits, than build the actual building ! :confused2: )

All the land in this area was homesteaded in the 1880's & 1890's. The property abutting me on the north is said to have been homesteaded by a family with four or five sons. There are literally miles of rock walls from clearing the fields. Makes my entire body ache when I see those walls.

I ate breakfast there the last time I camped at Linville Gorge. Will definitely go back for lunch or dinner next time I'm in the area.
