Raised the front wheels!

So, I made my first rookie mistake. After using my new 2520 to mow, I was slowly pulling into the garage to line up with the FEL I had removed. I was creeping along and the tractor stopped moving and the front wheels barely came off the ground... I froze... My mind was racing trying to figure out what was wrong. You guessed it, I failed to lower the ROPS. Once I realized what was happening, I slowly reversed course! Thankfully I was only creeping along, so no garage damage (or me damage). From now on I put my tools right in front of the garage to remind me to check the ROPS.

It is amazing how many times that happens to people.

Hasn't happened to me yet ... but I've come really close.

The tools in the path idea is good ... I think I'll do that.

If you think you'll forget the ROPS, what makes ya think you won't forget to put the tools out as a reminder?

You need to make it a habit (or routine) to check that ROPS position when ever you leave or enter the garage/shed.
I'm in the habit of driving out of the garage...stopping the tractor and put the ROPS up, then do a "preflight" of the tractor. Same thing applies going back in (except dropping the ROPS).
Once you have habitualized this process, it will be automatic.

The other thing I read (on TBN) was to affix a sign to the lowest section of the garage door (type of door that raises and lowers) as a reminder. When ever the door is opened, the sign (on a chain or similar) is hanging down.
I haven't done this (yet), but I think it's a good idea. I'd make it bright orange.

Good ideas. I remember the tools because I usually have to take a hammer/mallet and screwdriver to get the ROPS pins in and out. Once I raise the ROPS I lay the tools I just used down right in my path at the edge of the garage, so I see them and remember to use them again to put the ROPS back down. I am getting better at my "routine" when starting and finishing tractor work :thumbsup:

I have done it and probably will again but I never raised the front wheels so far though!

Since I do things like that more often than I am willing to admit to, my current garage door has a 10ft. high door. I also made it higher than standard so my truck with shell and ladder rack would fit. It won't fit in a standard height garage either. Don't ask me how I know this.:ashamed::ashamed::ashamed:

I don't have that issue with the shed I park my tractor under, but I like the idea of suspending a low clearance "warning" bar maybe three feet in front of the REAL bar, which is the garage door itself. If you have the ROPS up, and it hits the low clearance "warning" bar first, then you have time to stop and back up before you do some real damage. Of course, if you park your tractor in the garage attached to your house, that idea might not be kosher with the wife unit.

This is what I did to remind everybody to lower the the rollbar on the new tractor, the ford 3000 with the fixed rollbar would just clear the door the kioti won't.I only get to the farm about once a month so I wanted a reminder.figured when the pvc pipe busted it would get my attention.

Strange: out of three folding ROPS I have, none needed tools to remove or install.
