Trying to get 1st cutting grass hay. It rains everyday or every other day. Tractor is ready. New 12 wheel rake ready. Got the itch over the winter to by a baler with a thrower. Ended up buying 2 balers. JD 336 and JD 346 with throwers. Plus my JD 336 I had. Sure would like to try them out. The ground is so saturated I am sure I will make ruts. And to top it off the grass is starting to get mature. Well things could be worse. Hope to cut next week. Last year we were in a drought.

I hear you! We're plenty wet up at the Canadian border also. My road is still flooded, i haven't been able to plant anything in my field, and I'm praying for enough dry weather to cut hay next week.

I just had to click on this post to see where you are.:)
Here in Texas we are in our fifth year of below average rainfall. (drought)
Please ship any unwanted moisture down South.

Yep, extreme drought, send rain. All area cities under water rationing, lakes at 35% capacity.

We've had over six inches in the last 4 days. Enough is enough. Some parts of Minnesota have had over a foot in the same time frame.

Global Wierding sucks.

Man I'm 20 miles from you and wishing for it to stop. One of us is going to loose. Hope it's you, at least till I get my 1st cutting up. Grin.

Hmmm! We just got some rain the last two days. Not near enough to make up for low snow load this last winter. If we were to get back to normal we would all be building arks. It is an exceptionally dry summer here.

I'll take some more rain if you've got it to spare. Little bit of a drought here. Got 3" of rain on Sunday and another half inch today. Sad part is I'd have to really go looking to find muddy spots. Most just soaked right into the ground and much of the ground is dry already.

Send it our way disco. Many here have it cut but by the time it reaches us they will have it baled and hauled.

We were lucky as in the last few days we got enough rain(5-10"s) to raise several surrounding lakes over 5 feet.

We didn't get that much up here, but did get enough to shut down my job since last Friday. I'm hoping to get back out there tomorrow.

It seems Mother Nature is being fickle for the last decade or so. No one seems to get normal weather, it is either drought of flood. This year we have been getting lots of rain and springs are still flowing into my ponds. For the 2 years prior to this one, it was 6 months or more without any rain in the summer and not a lot even in the winter. I was having to water some of my trees as the leaves were falling and no fruit at all due to lack of water. This year, my fruit trees are so laden with fruit that I am having to prop up the limbs to keep them from breaking off.

Or out West. We're dry as a bone here in Northern CA.

Central IN is in the rain every couple days mode and lots of 1st cutting hay still in the field. We just can't seem to get 3 to 4 days of no rain or we don't cut because the weather forecasters show 60% or higher chances for rain and then it does not rain. Long range is showing July being rainy. Need to get that 1st cut off we can get a good 2nd and hopefully 3rd.

Over 7 inches of rain so far . Seeding all got done but crops are dying in the mud now only beans and corn look ok everything else is finished .

This makes me sick. Pump your excess to northern NV. 3rd year of drought here.

It's getting quite rediculous, weather man says 7 days of 20-40% rain coming up so I figure the odds are low I will give it a try and then as I get the haybine serviced I feel drops on my head and then a short down pour, I check the weather again to see where that pour came from and the 7 days of 20-40% rain is now anywhere from 90% to 40% are they just guessing forecasts now? Cause the 7 day forecast changes so much how do you know when to go out and do your hay?

Easy. Do the hay when it's not going to rain. That and don't trust the TV. Find someone or some site that has a trustworthy forecast and learn to read between the lines and pay attention to the weather systems to get a feel for things yourself. Getting arthritis also helps, but nothing is foolproof.

Taking a chance today and cutting hay. Storms are possible this afternoon, but percentage is low. Next 3 to 4 days have a low chance of rain, some stations calling for rain next 2 days then clear and others saying clear for 4 or 5 days after today. Who knows, but bottom line decided it was time to take the risk when it seems the lowest. Need to get it cut so the 2nd cutting can start growing while we are getting rain.

Got the hay put up after a long day on the 4th. Did get some sprinkles the day before, we rolled the windrows after the top dried and tried baling late day, but was still a little tough. But, next day it was good to go, just still very slow baling because it was so thick when cut. Ended up about 90 square bales to the acre on this field that was seeded last year. Now just hope we do not go into a dry spell, looking forward to hopefully a good 2nd and 3rd cutting on the alfalfa. Mother Nature probably wishes we would make up our mind in this area, we have been asking her to slow down the rain and now I am asking her to bring it on.
