I see on Houston's Craigslist once in a while someone selling them pretty cheap. You may check there or Austin's Craigslist.

I just went to a RR yard where I saw a big pile of them and asked the forman. He said "we're not supposed to do that but it costs me money to get rid a them. How many do you want ?" They were not the best, they cul out the best ones. But they were fine for making my corduroy road out in the woods.

As I understand it, due to creosote and environmental issues, RR no longer sell tyes.
Same goes for utility companies and ploes as far as I know.

Piloon is correct, at least in Western New York, they want them to go to a secure landfill! "Thanks GreenFolks"! All this stuff could be re-used (Garden bunks, pole barns etc., instead of land-filled! ~S
