Question on trans oil - need answer quick!

I changed the trans oil in my JD 2305. The stuff that came out of it was red, like an AT fluid. I bought JD Hy-Gard TY6354, which says it exceeds the specifications of the factory JC20 oil (which I assume is the red stuff). But the oil I bought looks like regular oil. It's not AT fluid colored.

My question is does that make a difference? Did I put the right oil in? My local JD store is not open today so I'm trying to get an answer before I start work.

found same thing on my 2320 use the jd oil also the engine oil filters were different diameters and had to buy different wrenches for it

The Hygard you bought is standard viscosity - what you took out was low viscosity (better for cold weather applications).

Since you are in Az where its warm? I think it should be OK.

Isn't the "red" merely a dye? Can't you also just buy the dye at Deere, which makes it easier to read on the dipsticks/sight glasses?

AT fluid does work and had been used for years in hydostatic transmissions, but a combination transmission/hyraulic fluid is better. It has added lubrication properties in it that help reduce wear in hydrostatic system and work to keep seals in cylinders and valves form drying out.

OK, I feel better now. I just grabbed that oil off the shelf and never bothered to ask the parts guy if it was the right stuff for the 2305. The JD supplier I go to mainly deals in heavier equipment.

Same with me..... My 790 had hyd fluid in it that had some red dye in it. The new HyGard I put back in looked like most any other hyd fluid. I think they dye it red so it's easy to tell (if you have a leak on a new tractor) if it's engine oil or hyd fluid.
