Just curios are you checking the level with the dipstick screwed in or are you just setting in the hole till the threads touch the housing ?

Good question. I'm not implying I'm right about this but I've always been told you never screw in a threaded dipstick to check a fluid level. In this case, since there are an inch of threads on the dipstick, I was in the bottom third of the "acceptable level" marks on the dipstick WITHOUT screwing it in. I figure when it's screwed in, it should be plenty over the full mark which doesn't concern me too much on a front axle.

Yep that’s the same thing I had always been told and done. I have pretty much the same thoughts on it.

As others have indicated it is much faster to remove those two 15/16th plugs at the top of each side on the front to allow for removal of air when refilling. IIRC the drain in the center of the axle on mine was 9/16 while the drains at the wheels were 14mm. I used premium TSC Hydraulic Fluid to replace the factory fill. None of the drain plugs on my axle were very tight so something you may want to check if you've not got to your 50 hour service point yet.
