I have a brand new 4060 that I had the dealer equip with a Kubota third function set up for the loader so I can run my grapple. It has the push button mounted on the loader joy stick that you depress to activate the system and a rocker switch on the top of the loader joystick you move in either direction to open or close the grapple.

Are you supposed to be able to "feather" the hydraulics with the rocker switch or is it an all or nothing at all type of situation? I'm asking because right now it is either full speed extension or full speed retraction which is basically useless to me.

With these types of 3rd function systems, it is all or nothing. To feather you have to flick the switch back and forth quickly. This opens and closes the valve quickly, but there is nothing in between. :(

One of the reasons that some people prefer a diverter 3rd function system, full feathering capabilities. ;)

You can install orifice fitting, or flow control fitting to act as a restriction, the Landpride SGC1572 had them installed and I removed them to speed things up.

Do you happen to have a picture of them?

Its just a male to female fitting with a tiny hole in the center instead of a normal hole. I have em in the TnT setup from MtnViewRanch & it works well. A maybe $20 fix to your problem. Only drawback is it will be slow all the time, but at least it will be controlable. You can drill the hole bigger to permantly speed it up, but dont drill it to big to fast.

I recently test drove a L4060 with a 3rd function. The 2 direction buttons on top look nice & factory. The toggle button to enable/disable the other 2 was a bit ackward, ugly & kludgy looking. Not sure why its even needed & you cant just have the 2 buttons live all the time.

I was planning on a diverter when I upgrade from my L3200 to a L4060, but thinking I might end up with a 3rd function for simplicity & an OEM looking install. Having trouble sorting out if or where regen is on the bucket dump. I could put it on the lift circuit, but I'm **** retentive & my setup will be for left/right on a SSQA mounted snow plow. Up & down for L/R would annoy me. Still haven't sold my old machine or decided on my setup for my new one for sure, may end up leaning back toward a diverter.

I have the third function toggle switch on the side of my joy stick. Mine has no on/off switch - its on/active all the time. Mine takes about 4-5 seconds to go from grapple fully closed to fully open. It does take some practice, when closing, to not crush everything. At first it was kind of a PITA, but with time & practice it works fine for me now.

No on/off switch here either. A safety feature? Mine is OEM (made by LandPride)

Thanks. I have the same grapple is why I asked.

Thanks guys; looks like I wasted that money. I'll go back to the system I used on the old tractor that used lines run from the rear remotes to the grapple.

I cannot believe folks are OK with the 3rd function valve that operates this way. To me it is unsafe and defeats any hope you have of using the grapple to "hold" items that you don't want to crush which I do quite frequently.

I have the OEM on my L5740HSTC and have no trouble applying less than maximum pressure by toggling the rocker switch. We run a grapple off a rear remote on our M8540HDC now due to cost, but plans are for a third function or diverter.
