I just purchased a JD-850 with only 675 hours on it. Man I love it! The question I have is about the differential lock. I can stomp the lock with my right foot and it locks up just fine. What unlocks it? Changing directions, hitting the clutch, what?

This is the workingest little 20 horse tractor I have ever seen.

It unlocks when pressure is relieved from the gears, usually when you stop and/or reverse.

Actually, it's more like a 24 HP tractor. According to tractordata, they are rated 22hp at the PTO. Maybe that's why it works really good for a 20hp tractor!! :)

See tractordata info here:

Yep gotta be more than 20hp.

That is one of the functions, I was most ignorant about, I knew what it did but did not know that is best to use in a straight line of travel and not to turn until it releases, I am afraid I have decreased its life due to my abuse. be careful using the diff lock
