Hi I'm thinking about buying a dirt scoop, don't have a FEL, can't afford it right now /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, my question is will a 2610 handle a 30" scoop and also a 72" yard rake. if anybody close to north Alabama have used ones they would like to sell at a reasonable, please PM me with a price and location. Thanks Robert

I would say your tractor could handle those implements.
I have a 1401 that I used with a 24" scoop that worked good. I want to sell it too, but I'm a little far from your location.

My 2310 handles a 30" dirt scoop without a problem. I don't have a landscape rake

I think a 36" would work also. Might need 200lbs or so on the front but you will need some weight up there anyway. The tractor will handel the 6' rake.

I use a 30" scoop on my 2210 with no problem. I've got about 160# on the front bumper. Moved about 20 tons of gravel a while back with no problem. It did take a little getting used to at first. I had to go in low and raise the scoop as I moved in. Got it nice and full almost every time. Not sure about the rake, but I would think it could handle it with no problem. Good luck!

Just looked back to a previous post, looks like it was 25 tons of gravel moved in 2 hours using the scoop! Not bad for a little 30" scoop. Here is a link to the thread if you are interested in the info there.

My 1700 handled a 30" scoop fine.. once I added about 180# of front weight to it.

Thanks I thought it would, but I knew someone on here would know for sure. I do have to get some weight for the front, I don't have any right now, anybody have some home made weight holder or weight box pictures they could post. Thanks again Robert

I don't have any good pics.. but what I did was take two pieces of big pipe.. 4" ok.. but 6" better.. metal prefered.. pvc ok. And then I used threaded rod, nuts and washers and bolted the pipes together one on top of the other, and then left mounting studs that mounted to my 1700's bumper.. Filled with some scrap rebar and then concrete. Made a hefty brush bumper too. I got rid of the bumper years ago when i got a heavier tractor to tote the scoop.

I appreciate this topic as I have been wanting to add a scoop to my equipment. I have a YM2420 and have figured on purchasing a 30 inch scoop and didn't even realize they had larger ones like the 36 inch one mentioned. Mainly, I am curious as to weights also. I did a search trying to find out about the suit-case weights and didn't really find any information concerning what I needed to know. I am curious as to where to purchase them and roughly what amount to get. I haven't measured the weight that came on the front, but guess it to be around 100#. I will have to take it off and weigh it...but, I think that guess is not too far off the mark. I think I need another 75-100 pounds. But, I'm not sure.

You are correct about the frontend weights, 220# is recommended for the YM240/2000, which weighs in at about 1668#, somewhat less than your tractor. Any tractor dealer should carry suitcase weights that will hang on your bumper. Expect to pay about $1 per pound. Be mindful that normal spacing for cat.1 implements is 26", so whatever size scoop you chose you will need to turn the pins inward to avoid the lower arms contacting the rear tires.

Norm,

Thanks for the information that is helpful. I do think it is a little light on the front end now and felt for sometime that I probally did not have enough weight on the front end. I will correct that soon.

Thanks Soundguy, roughly how much weight do you think you have, and I didn't think about pipe, you know when you get one idea in your head you don't think about useing anything else, thats why I ask, I was thinking about welding plate steel together and making a removable box some way, about the same idea, I can get used rotors, hubs and such where I work, but I like the pipe idea for a bumper, probably will use pipe, any body know were I can buy two 14 to 18 inch pipes, about that long and I will need help or a crane to out it on, LOL, just kidding. Thanks for the idea and 6 inch will work fine..Robert

I'm pretty sure it was close to 200#. i think the front axle on that size is limited to 240 or so.. can't remember. in any case.. with that weight i could pick up as big a scoop of moist clay or dirt as I could break out, and then go with it. i figure, scoop and payload was in the 500# range. Without the front weight.. the tractor made a great tetter-totter.

Another thought, most shops have a bucket of old wheel weights laying around. You may be able to get them for free and add them to your pipe for a little more weight. Cheap and heavy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
