Thanks for everyone's insight to the Grapple question. I had my dealer order a RBG2 - 60" model from WR Long. I did not pull the trigger on the diverter just yet. I'm going to see how difficult it is to just use the 3rd SCV for now.

Thanks again.

Clayton

This is exactly the way I went also. In total getting the grapple, and all hoses to reach to my rear remote the cost was $2300. Although I have had it since mid December I haven't had the chance to really use it other than pulling out some overgrown Christmas trees the day I initally installed it.

Someday I will go with the valve because I can see it will be much more efficient but until then the remote does the job.

Hey Claykin, That's the one I ordered, too. Yes, you can try it without the valve, first. And if you don't like it get one later.

Mine has not come in, yet. I got to thinking about using it and pushing limbs, etc. With the 4in1 opened up you have some protection against limbs and the tractor radiator. But with the grapple I think more could poke through. Here's what I welded up the other day over the brush guard to help...

RedBug,

That is impressive. I don't think to much should get through that! The wire should be easy enough to replace if it gets to banged up. I should have just gone ahead and ordered the deluxe hood guard vs. the standard that comes with the loader, but I've seen some standard hood guards on e-bay for pretty cheap. I might just have to buy one and make it a little beefier like yours.

Thanks for the suggestion.

dknard,

Did you get the same grapple? I'm wondering, because my dealer is selling it to me for $1740 including shipping & hoses to the mid SCV outlets. It might help that I am running this thru with my new tractor order, but I just wanted to see if it was even the same model.

I was leaning towards the Millonzi model on price, but the WRLong is actually $50 cheaper after shipping. Which makes me a happy camper as the Long model is the one I really thought would fit my needs best!

How are you going to control the grapple if the hoses just run to the mid SCV outlets? Is there an extra set of ports at the midSCV if you already have an FEL controller hooked up? Usually you need to get the hoses all the way back to the rear remotes and then control the grapple with the rear remote lever. Works fine that way. I've just never heard of going from the grapple to the mid SCV except with a diverter valve or electric over hydraulic setup.

I presume you were pricing the 60 inch Millonzi rather than the 48 inch grapple. That one still does for around $850 plus shipping.

He's gotta have something already setup on the tractor. Sounds like the dealer hasn't got it yet and maybe he's not positive which way they're setting it up ?

I already have a 4-in-1 bucket coming with the tractor, so the hydraulic lines will at the minimum have a quick coupler remote mounted, I assume, with the other remotes for the loader.

To this, I will be using a 4 in 1 bucket, so I am going to try and put some couplers out on the loader arms towards the bucket, so I can simply disconnect the bucket and switch to the grapple, If that is not an option, They will just run the lines to the mid SCV's where there will be an additional outlet mounted with hydraulic lines from the rear SCV feeding this outlet.

Correct, Millonzi 60 inch was quoted at $1640 plus $150 shipping. 48" was quoted at $1040 plus shipping.

Correct...I don't know for sure just yet. On our 4710 w/a 4 in 1 they simply added another MID SCV outlet, fed by the rear SCV.

FYI, I believe Millonzi will quote lower prices if you mention you heard about them via TBN. Someone just recently got the 48" for about $850 plus shipping.

That is unique but makes sense. Most of the time people have the connection made at the torque bar on the FEL so you don't need to run and secure the grapple/4n1 hoses all the way back to the operator station each time you change over. However, what you describe should work fine.

That is the price I got but had to add another $125 for shipping then the other $ was for hoses with couplers to run back to the rear remotes. I have a coupler in position so that if I want to remove the complete loader frame I don't have to remove the line from the remote to the middle of the tractor.

I like the long grapple but I VERY MUCH DISSLIKE having had to go through a dealer to buy it. First it was hard to find a dealer in my area and the ones I checked within a 100 mile radius had prices all over the place. I ended up paying about $100 more than my lowest quote but only had to travel 15 miles from home to get it. Although my tractor lives 200 miles from my home, but there wasn't any dealers near there either.

I agree with you Dknarnd. WR Long would probably sell a lot more products if he did not lock himself into using dealers. Markham Welding does their own thing and the prices and value are great. I checked with 2 dealers and the prices were about the same for the grapple. These guys talk to each other on a daily basis and it think they are in kahoots. I guess I could have driven 50 more miles. I am paying $1800 including hoses.

I picked up my WR Long grapple today. Here's a few pics of it after I got the hoses/couplers hooked up. It is a good fit on the Quick Attach. I will give it a workout in the next few days and give opinions/tips...

Looks Great!

How long did it take to come in after you ordered??

Nice unit but it looks like it spit up a little. What have you been feeding it?

Claykin, It took around 2 1/2 or 3 weeks. I think WR Long must not have a lot of built ones in stock. They probably build them as they are ordered. The hoses were the right length, too. I can roll the grapple all the way down and the hoses have a little slack left. WR Long has gotten it all figured out, I suppose.

Wedge, Yes it did spit up a little. One of the hose connections to a cylinder was loose. When I hooked it up and opened the jaws, it sprayed hydraulic fluid out. I sprayed things down with "Gunk" and hosed it off.

So...moral of the story for you all getting new grapples...take a couple crescent wrenches and go over all the connections and connectors before you try her out.

Great set up - any pics of the hydraulic connections from the grapple to your tractor? Did you specify the hose length from the grapple?

Thanks,
Brad

You will probably still have to retighten the hoses throughout a good grapple workout. They seem to have a way of coming undone...

One minor problem I have had with my WR Long 60" grapple was one time I was crushing up brush and a piece came through the top of the grapple and knocked the hydraulic tee loose. A little bit of fluid later and a few wrenches and I was back in business. I am going to put a little piece of angle there to protect the hoses etc. I think I may need to protect the hydraulic cylinder hoses from wear against the frame of the top of the grapple. I thought about black radiator hose over the lines . Any ideas???
