Can your loader handle that weight even at the bucket?
Roy,
My M8540 is rated at 5000# at the pivot. I am concerned about the leverage a 10' boom pole would put on the tractor.

Are you sure that the drop pipe is actually 500' or is the well that deep with drop pipe only extending to about 20' below the water line? (Just a thought)

Qapla,
I know the well is 540' deep from the drillers report. I am guessing the pump is set at around 300' from the hp. and gpm. produced. I also know the static water level is at 180'.

Here ya go. Just get this machine. It is a one man job.
There is NO WAY "I" would ever allow to be built a submersible pump
with PVC pipe. NO WAY JOSE! Steel is just fine thank you.

Artisan,
That is cool, but I'm with you on steel pipe that deep !

Question for everyone on black plastic well water pipe. Maybe seven or eight years ago, I was working for a friend who was licensed and had an electrical/plumbing/hvac business. About as conservative as anyone and not really a green "nut", he strongly believed in not using black PVC due to leaching for well pump applications. At the time, I never dwelled on the issue.

Rather, he had this pipe that was blue on the outside with an opaque inner layer. I have done some searching and have not really been able to substantiate his claim. Nor have I kept in touch with him or I would simply ask him.

Thoughts anyone?

For those of you with a pump on polly pipe w/ a pull rope, I have used one of these for 30+ yrs. Just set the short legs straddle of the casing and pull away.

I would do a replacement with that Sch-80 threaded plastic pipe only. It's what it is made for.

Don't forget to clorinate the well, it does really need to be done.

Do a google search, it will explain how and why.

If it was me I would buy one of those cheap electric atv winches. You could rent several sections of staging or make a tripod to hold the winch up over the well head. To hold the pipe up all you need is a flat piece of steel with a U cut in it, large enough for the pipe to slide through but small enough the couplings can't. Finally get yourself a 1 1/4" steel cap and weld a ring large enough to clip the hook from the winch too.

I agree completely. The schedule 80 PVC, threaded sections is the right material for the job. It is much lighter than the galvanized pipe, so the total weight will not be anywhere near the 1500 lb of the existing pipe.

Now, my suggestion would be to use either galvanized or stainless for the very top 21' section of the pipe. The reason for this is that if something happens to hit the Tee at the top of the well casing plastic pipe can be broken off and the pump will fall to the bottom of the well. If the top section is metal pipe, it will not break and will protect the rest of the pipe string.

If the pipe string and pump falls to the bottom of the well, it can cost many thou$and$ to recover the pump. Do not ask how I know this...
