2006 Kioti DK 45s
As always thanks in advance, I mean it, you folks sure change thoughts and encourage without making somebody, namely me feel stupid. Just wanted you to know, your thoughts are always appreciated.
I decided on the DK45s with backhoe and a few minor upgrades. Went to 3 dealers and spoke on the phone with 3 others and I decided on this 1 dealer, a little farther than I wanted to go... over 70 miles away but his service so far has been great and the price is just a tad over the lowest price given so i'm gonna go with him. But heres my dilemma:
My concerns are with servicing the tractor, I'm having it brought to me and I dont have the truck and trailer to bring it anywhere! I know, I know, I "shouldn't have any problems to worry about" and I do plan on servicing what this home mechanic can, but i'm still a little uhhh, uneducated as to how this works. I'll give a scenario.
Lets say I go out to the barn, and she just doesn't start. I go through all the checks and such, and sure enough, theres just some problem that needs a pro, or a tech, or something diagnostic is wrong and it just wont... whatever.
What to do, I mean what can I expect done for me in my "temper moment"? What kind of service form this dealer or any other dealer can I count on? Pay them to tow it to them? They plug it in ...yada,yada, 3 weeks later they tell me i'm all set and they'll bring it home for another tow charge? Come on! I'm not about to leave myself or my wallet that open without some sort of Manufacturers Promise or maybe even a Dealer PROMISE FOR THAT MATTER.
Am I missing something here? I know it sounds trivial but anything mass produced is bound to put out a few duds once in a while. I dont care what ISO or whatever garbage they throw at us, it happens daily. Sorry to ramble, but 6 yrs is a lot of payments to make to not have a PRISTINE machine in the barn ya know! Thanks again crew Tom

We have the tech come to the farm for problems.

In 12 years, 3 calls...2 for tires and 1 for a mechanical problem...this for the JD.
For the Ford 1700, since 1982 0 service calls.
For my brothers Kubota...so many problems he had to buy a trailer to save on service calls.
Kioti...time will tell. I just got mine but I think it is going to be like the old Fords....a tank.
Just my 2 cents.

I would print off what you just asked all of us and take that to the dealer and see what his reaction to your question is.
That will tell you everything.

Thanks guys, seems the other tbn'ers dont want to touch the issue with a flag pole. I'll take they're non-replys as either this is too serious of an issue to deal with as individual tractor buyers, or maybe they're just simply happy with the purchase. I'll opt for that one.
I didn't meen to rustle any feathers on anyone including dealers, just figured that when something goes negatively for them (they're purchase that is) they are all too eager to share that experience with other potential buyers. But as I stated, that didn't happen to anyone on this board so... it looks like the coast is clear.
Rick, I'm not sure what you meant by your post. If you were joking or what but a do appreciate your reply because you deal with this daily. It would make sense that your opinion is maybe even more valuble than others might be, particularly in this case. If your serious and you think its wise, I might just do that. All I was trying to find out from you guys is whats the wisest thing concerning warranty issues.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what your question is. When my tractor breaks worse than what I can/want to fix myself, I trailer it to the dealer and then pick it up at my cost. If I did not want to trailer it to the dealer or wasn't set up to do that then I would expect that I would be burdened with the tractor moving costs UNLESS it was part of the deal when I bought the tractor that all transport costs during the warranty period would be covered by the dealer or something similar. Many buyers negotiate things into the purchase of their tractors such as scheduled maintenance. I don't think the dealer owes you transport costs. I do think that a wise dealer will offer it as an extra or a purchasable extra.

You will always hear more about problems people have than about praise. If everything was going smoothly then what would we talk about? We come to these forums for help and to help others with our tractors, well, most of us do.

The DK45s looks to be a super tractor. If I had more land, and didn't have to transport it all the time I might consider an upgrade someday.

I don't think your question was that we don't want to answer. It's more like Rick said, check with your dealer and yes, I do believe he is serious. My dealer said that if it was a major repair, then he would pick it up and bring back, free of charge. I'm only 20 miles away. If it was something minor, he would get the part, if needed, and if I wasn't sure how to fix it on my own, he would talk me through it. If I didn't want to attempt a minor repair, I'd be charged for the service call or hauling if needed. I'm pretty machanically inclined, so that was fine with me. I think each dealer has their own rules or hauling policies regarding warranty issues, so asking your dealer what he does is I think what Rick meant. I've had two minor fixes in the first three months that I did on my own with the dealer getting me the parts. Since then, 10 months worth, not a single problem.
I hope this helps a little.

No, no please don't take this the wrong way I didn't mean it in a bad way.
I think it would be great to get on the same page with your selling dealer.
Take you concerns to him and see what he tells you.
It is very important and may or may not make your final decision on where you purchase it.
I do tell and it is also posted in my store that warranty does not cover pick up and delivery.
As far as aa dealer out here I will help and work on any brand tractor reguardless of who had sold it or what state it comes from.
I am speaking for myself other dealer have different opinions on warranty and service of a machine that was not sold by them.

I see, I see. You've all answered my question due to your own experiences which I now realize is what I've been fishing for.
I suppose speaking with the dealer on warranty and service issues is something i'll immediately work on. Like some stated- perhaps I should find out how both major and minor repairs are handled and come to an agreement on that. Really, I didn't know how open that subject is for discussion. I own a 57' Ford 850TLB and a 48' Cub, neither is very dependable but both are paid for /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.(well the Cub is actually very dependable and sees "utility" duty several times a week, its just soooo cooool /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif)But limited ,you know.
I didn't mean to sound like a jerk to you guys, you just seem to be the goto people on subjects like this. After all, when I complete this transaction, who else can I get good advise from when something breaks. Special thanks to all, Tom PS i'll chime in when IT happens.

First I'd like to say that, to me, you didn't come off as a jerk, but someone who wanted to get a feel for what happens when service is needed! Welcome to the forum, where there really isn't a stupid question unless it's unasked but was needed!

Under warranty, the only thing required of the dealer is to handle getting parts, and do the labor. Any transportation TO his shop is chargeable as are service calls to the site.

Dealers all have different ways of handling that. I had a plastic-handled knob break, and because the dealer needed to come to town anyway, he dropped it off the next day, no charge, but that was not a major thing.

As was posted, some dealers arrange up front how they will handle any warranty transports, but I think you'll find that most will want transportation costs.

For the most part, I think as long as you buy any new tractor in the upper tiers of Mahindra, Kioti, Long, Montana, NH, JD, Kubota, etc., it will be a long while before you have any MAJOR problem.
