Pull-type bush hogs?

While i think 50hp should pull a 10' mower.. You'll get dealer info saying perhaps 7'. I realize that lots of us may use an underpowered tractro / large mower just for clipping grass tops, and do get away with it fine.

Too bad you can't find a folding wing 10' mower.. Might be fine with it. Check out the howse website and look at the towed 8' HD units

I'm -VERY- happy with my 10' HD howse 3pt mower... It's done everything I've asked of it.. including knocking a few 3-4" trees over accidentally /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have a neighbor w/ a 8' Bushhog he pulls w/ his 60-ish HP JD. He seems very pleased w/ it. I myself am contemplating trading an older heavy Bush hog 9' 3pt model in favor of a 10' pull type. I am really looking at Sidewinder but still considering all brands. I can barely pull the 9' 3pt w/ my 50hp tractor in heavy stuff and want to upgrade to something I can pull behind our 4320. I think (oh boy, here we go) the hp requirements are a bit lower for a twin blade model (my 9' is a single blade). If I do this, I will have a 6' 3pt, the new 10' pull type and access to my BIL's 15' batwing. That should cover all scenarios on my place.

Yes, extremely noisy, lots of trash flying about, and it really drags the tractor down when you hit a persimmon orchard. And it is heavy enough it "lightens" the front end of my 5005 Mahindra when I pick it up all the way.

Single spindle is a bad choice FWJ, You can spin an 8' double with same hp as a 7' single. I've got an old 8' Deere triple spindle belt drive that really does well(2" cut) and a Woods 10'double that works in thin Bahia with 50ptohp. Of course, thick Bahia is hard on my 6 footer. A lot depends on the grass. Bermuda, Fescue etc, is fairly easy.

My choice of a single-spindle mower is to hold down cost. All the mowers with 2 gearbox's (that I've seen anyway) have a higher price tag. This is an effort to save a few bucks by spending just a little. I have to weigh the cost of the mower against moving tractor AND mower I have now. (both cost of dollars and cost in terms of time saved)

Looks like someone solved my problem in a different manner though. Land I was trying to buy has a higher offer than I made. Oh well.
