Look at the attachment. The beveled pinion says that there is 8 a ring that needs to come out then the 6 can be taken off. When I looked at 6 it has canals in it. In one of the canals there is a square blocking it from moving. Is this the ring? And how do I remove it to get to the bults. Or is it easier to just use a crows foot and remove the bults?

It looks like 6 is threaded and a spanner is the tool of choice.

Is the "square" one of the tabs of the lock ring (7)? It looks like that is the method used to keep 6 from turning? That sounds too obvious to me, probably you found the real reason by now. Sure looks like 6 threads onto the shaft, and 7 holds it in adjustment? Let us know.

Found it!

7 folds over into the canel on 6. All it needed was a push and a hammer to fold it back. Then it all came out. Thanks for the help. The ring gets bent over into the canals. I have an old Farmall and it uses half moons to block things. I guess that just looking at things on a new day really helps.
