Pull-Back collar on PTO shaft

HD I hear what you are saying about rust but you and I live on opposite sides of the continent. You live in a high humidity area and I live in a semi desert. On a good year we might hit 10-12 inches precipitation including the snow. I store all of my equipment inside and here rust is just not an issue. Unless.... you leave it outside for ten years.
I didn’t know that. You are prolly ok then.
I keep most of my plastic shielding in good shape. I actually have to fix my tedder shielding this winter.

The PTO shaft is very heavy on our HD mower and it is hard to hold it up and push the shaft forward and pull the collar back. You are fighting yourself. Have you son and DIL hook it up! Or use lots of lubricant on the sliding shaft and the collar and spline.(used motor oil) I also have a file that just fits into the splines and I dress them when they get buggered. Regardless, they are a PIA!

Just buy a tractor for each attachment
Problem solved!

I don’t have as much trouble with the pull back collars as many of you have reported but yes for me they are a royale pain and I highly prefer the older fashioned push button type, just don’t understand why so many manufacturers have switched to the sliding collar type ?
If I see it right, the smooth round pull back locks are just that much less likely to catch and hang up on chains, ropes, twine, gloves or clothing.

I could be wrong, but those things are pretty difficult to catch up on.

The problem I have with my slide back collar is that it is located on the mid mower shaft going to the mid pto location underneath my Kubota BX2230. I have to lay on the mower deck with my shoulder, reach up and around the rear tire to slide on or release it for removal. Can't get a second arm or hand in there to help. Rear pto, no problem, it is easily accessible. Jon

Different tractor, same problem. I slide under the tractor 3 pt hitch & get closer to the mower deck. Gives me good access to the collar

Not enough room under the three point and rear axle. Jon
