I recently purchased a NH TC29D, used 132hr (Super Steer) great machine. Dealer says PTO speed is marked on tach. Unit has no markings on tach, but has 540, 600 iluminated during staring as the key is turned. Once running no matter what engine speed or which (Mid or Rear PTO) is selected no indicator lamps illuminate. I would like to know what is the RPM to achive 540 PTO. Many Thanks, Neil:)

Look for a little PTO symbol on the tach face near 2400-2600RPM. It might be very small.

Neil,

I have a TC29D and it is right around 2400, a tad bit under. I have this line right in that area but it does not say PTO speed. My green and red light use to work but now only my green does. And it is tough to see in the light. But I do know there is a good range where the green light comes on. I wouldn't worry to much about it if your in the 2400 range.

Thanks for the responce, this is a great site. When I have been using mid and rear things sounded good at about 2200 RPM. So now I can apparently ease up to 2350/2400 Rpm with some confidence. I re-inspected the tach, no marks or little icons (nice attempt to show symbol, it was clear). If any one knows what to do to get indicator lights for PTO to operate let me know. Best, Neil

Might not be it.. but would be great if it was. next though is burned out dash lamps.. if they didn't come on during pre-ignition.. etc.

Well// board won't let me edit my post.. but I see that you said the lamps ARE working at pre-ignition.. so scratch that idea.

Next idea is the circuit that triggers them is non-op.. perhaps a speed sensor.. etc..

Many thanks for the help. Contacted dealer again they had many of the same suggestions that you all have offered. Found problem to be the sensor acuated by the movement of the engaging control lever(Mid or Rear). Simple, I have not corrected due to time restraints. Also got green 540 indicator on insturment panel to illuminate at 2500 RPM. It still sounds happier at about 2200RPM.

Great group of folks! Thanks, Neil
