this mentions compressed length, I cant see the two piece shield, do you think it expands for sure?

Yep, It's a standard series 4 PTO shaft. It expands.

BTW, I'm originally from the iron range...you ready for winter?

one more lawn mowing and one small brush cutting job, then pick up the yard and I am ready (well at least with outside stuff---cars get worked on inside)

Look at where the shaft cover meets the right shroud. That line around the shaft cover is where the outer and inner shaft covers overlap. It expands from there. That's usually the end that goes on the tractor.
