PTO Hydraulic Pump

I want to connect some Skid Steer attachments to the front-end load that requires up to 20 gpm to operate. My tractor only puts out 9.9 gpm. I am considering a 20 gallon pto pump, to run a brush cutter, post hole digger, etc. Anyone have experience with pto pump. What are the pro and cons? What size hydraulic tank is recommended? I priced a 10 gallon tank and 20 gpm pump for about $500. What obstacles am I running into if I attempt the project? Thanks

If you use a PTO pump you will need a hydraulic reservoir, hoses, and a valve. The rule of thumb is 1 gallon of reservoir for 1 GPM of pump.

I appreciate the threads. Refined my thinking on this topic. I was going to build one myself but that looks very time consuming. If I can find a reasonably priced pto pump setup I think I will go with that. Thanks for the guidance.

Hey! My Sweepster thread made the list. Aww, shucks! In my case, it was a special need so it made sense to roll my own. If you just need general hydraulic power supply, there are off the shelf units you can buy that will make life a lot easier. I'm pretty sure Surplus Center has them for sale. Then you just need to work out hoses or lines to get the hydraulics from the rear PTO up front to your FEL. Surplus Center has tons of hoses and fittings too...
