PTO for brush hog

Hello,
I recently bought a 1982 Ford 1200 4X4 diesel. It is 16HP with 13.5 HP at the PTO. It came with a 4 foot finish mower which works great. I was wondering if anyone has experience or knows if this tractor would handle a 4 foot rotary cutter. I'm thinking of buying one if so, Thanks.

I used to use my brothers MF1010-same power range as your Ford. It pulled a 4' hog decently-2nd gear in heavy stuff, 3rd in lighter growth (6 speed transmission.)

If it were me and you could find like a Bush Hog 42inch it would be perfect, but a 48 should be fine if you take your time..

I maintain an 80 acre Equine preserve and use an old 1985 Mitubishi MT372 to mow the front parking area with a just as old Sitrex 48" finish mower.

For the trails inside the preserve I run an EverythingAttachment 48" rotary cutter.

The Mitsu. only has 15hp at the crank with 12 @ the PTO.

You might need some front ballast to compensate for all that weight off the back and you're certainly not going to be able to do as much, as fast,
as with a better suited tractor for the job.

Can your Ole Ford do it?

Heck, Yeah but you be better suited with more hp for the tall/thick stuff.

I used a 4' hog on a kubota L174, 14hp PTO, 1400ish lb tractor and it worked fine, even cut tall stuff (4' tall weeds in a pasture).

Front weight isn't really an issue - brush hogs have that rear trailing wheel and it carries the weight so I never had issues. Have a kioti CK35 now (4k lbs) and run an 850lb 6' bush hog and never get even a bounce out of it. THe kubota was light on the front with every implement - except the brush hog
