You should not have a scenario where you have to open the intake ductwork to lift the hood. Every time you do, some amount of dirt inevitably will enter the engine.

Be creative....
Do a reverse gull wing engine cover that splits down the middle and drops to the sides. Each half would be a lot easier to handle than the whole is now. You'd have to figure some mounts for fans, coolers, etc., perhaps, but a lot of you guys are pretty creative and industrious.
I'd be happy to watch you do it.

When we were kids and it didn't fit, add a hood scoop or a shaker hood!
