My tractors wheel width is a little better than 5 1/2' and so I use a 6' brush hog but was wondering if it's that important with a scrape blade? I have been offered a used 5' blade for $250 but haven't checked it out yet so I don't know if it's a light weight or heavy duty but I think it is somewhat adjustable. As for the driveway, it's about a 600' single lane gravel (crush run) drive. A local dealer's price sheet gives a 6' slide tilt for $289 but I haven't had a chance to look at them yet either but before doing so wanted opinions from ya'll on how to best determine the width to get.

I had the same issue and went with the 6 footer.

Typically, you want your rear attachments to cover your wheel tracks. If you can, get a scraper blade (rear blade) which will cover your rear tire tracks when the blade is at an angle. In your case a 6' blade will cover most of your 5 1/2' tire tracks. A 7' blade might be even better, if you have the power to drag it.

However, with a box blade, try and get one that just covers your tracks. In your case, a 66" box blade would work fine.

Me too. I adjusted my track for stability; front and rear tires both 66.5 inches on center. A 72 inch box blade covers the tracks perfectly AND sticks out beyond the rear tire just far enough to cut up close. But not so wide as to get jammed when working through narrow gaps. Same with my 84 inch landscape rake, even when set to operate at it's extreme index angle.

I don't think you'll be happy with less than a seven foot blade. Consider that the operating width of the blade decreases as you increase the index angle of operation AND you want to be able to scrape up close to things without hitting them with your tires.
