To do it right, think about the GMC Syclones. AWD, center diff, turbo V6. That would be the way to do it. Modernize that, with IRS.

A regular 4x truck could be lowered. But it would have issues with the the drivetrain; regular 4x4 system would be too bound up on the street. Would have to have a differential or something between the transfercase and front end, ala Audi Quattro or Syclone.

Some of the newer (2002+?) Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade 1/2 ton vehicles came with an AWD center diff, that might hold up better than something out of a smaller vehicle.

Very cool project!

My father and I built a hybrid 1966 Pontiac Lemans/GTO when I was 16, and it was a great experience. It had Walker Dynomax glass packs on it....he said that helped him know when I got within 1mi of the house...lol. The other thing is that kids are more likely to drive carefully when they have sweat equity in their ride...you don't want to break what you worked hard to achieve. I had 400hp, but was careful about when I used all of it

Chris

Decided on 20x12 rims. They are currently on backorder for the Fuel Hostages that he wants. Coming in August. Waiting for rims and tires before we lift it. Also decided on 35x12.5 tires. Researched and should clear with possible minor rubbing. He is racking up the miles. Already put over 1000 miles on it. He loves the truck. All we have done since is add LED lights to the interior and new floor mats.

Phase 1 complete. Stereo head and exhaust done today. We have to finish the amp and subwoofers tomorrow. Flowmaster 40's are not as load as I expected. Good balance. Highway speed had no drone and was quiet.

40's on a modern truck are not that loud in the cab. Esp if you still have the Cats on it!! I have 40 series on my 1980 k10 and there not that loud. There is no insulation barely in the cab and you need to turn the radio up, but its no quiet ride anyway with windows down.

I would go with the what are they 10 or 20 series..the single chamber race mufflers if i were to do it again. And this truck has no cats or anything, just out the manifold into pipes and the mufflers under the bed and they dump under the bed cause the pipes rotted off and i cut the other off...cheap pipes. Need to get some more made that dump out behind the tires.

Phase 2....or is it 3 complete. Lift and tires just now finshed. Have an alignment appointment in an hour. Pics of Kurt helping out too. Took about 15 hours to install the lift. Ran into a couple issues like stuck control arm bolts and loose strut studs
