Problem with Hobart 140

In the Summer I bought a new Hobart 140 Mig/FCAW. I only use Flux Cored.
Used it often with no problems. Now, I think for the first time, I turn it to max output of 4 for the power, and it sputters and spits and outputs a week fizz of an arc. The arc even sounds week! Makes the uglest welds I ever made.
The machine sound be when just trying to feed the wire. It wines and moans trying to feed the wire. Anyone have an idea what I should look for?

What about the simple things like proper drive roller/wire type and size. Tension? Do you have a good ground?
Also, you need to reverse polarity for mig.


Hobart is a quality machine so it's either a lemon or you have missed something simple. It's the simple things we tend to overlook.

Check the power going to the welder. Are you using an extension cord.Does it weld properly on lower settings. This welder has a 1 year warranty.

I am also go with "mroldstyle" view....You should first check it that it just give the actual output when you running wire or not.

It sounds to me like it is either a bad contace tip, or a clogged/worn liner. It might also be that you have the gun cable bent too much.

I'd remove the tip and verify it is feeding smoothly and also check the dc voltage output. Should be between something like 18 v to 25vdc or so at the various settings.
Most likely a tip, dirty rusted wire. Doesn't take much to stop 20 volts.
