I bought a rotary mower and the tractor end of the PTO shaft has disappeared and the replacement is too short. I have to make it about 30 inches longer. It is a Series 4, the 43.5x3.4 (outside) end. I have found the right sized tubing. How do I get the coupling end off the old shaft? Or is there a way to splice the tubing?

Usually it's just a roll pin holding the tubing in place. The tubing does fit very snug in the yoke, so it can be a pain to take off.

Ah yes, upon closer examination, there is a roll pin. OK, after the roll pin is removed what is the advice for getting the tubing out of the yoke? I would soak in diesel fuel, but don't want to soak the bearings.

With a punch and hammer, try tapping on the end of the tubing through the U joint side, which can be tricky.

Cut the shaft flush with the yoke, take a sawzall or similar tool and cut the short piece of shaft still in the yoke lengthwise so it will collapse enough to pull out. You may have to cut it twice.
