Howdy all - this forum was a great help to me before when I bought my BX1850 several years ago so I figured I would bounce a couple questions off of you about my next tractor purchase.

I am considering pulling the trigger today on a new 08' Grand L 4740 HST equipped with the large loader and a land pride RCR1872 brush hog. The price on the table is $28,000 and my dealer claims he is cutting me a deal on it due to it being left over.

Is this a fair price? Also I would get 0% interest for 60 mos. I just paid off my BX and I am VERY happy with it, it has gone above and beyond on numerous occasions but I need something for my property in the country.

I really only need a 3540 but I can get the 4740 for just about 3K more and it seems to be alot more tractor. In the future I would put a 90" finish cut on this rig as well as do some major food plotting at my Deer hunting spots.

thank you in advance,

TB

That sounds to be in line with what I found recently.

I also though I only needed a 35 HP machine, but got a 50 and I am glad I did.

As for the rotary cutter, it will be fine for grass and weeds, but I picked up the RCR2672 for grass and brush.

Good luck and don't forget the pictures.

W/that said a lot more tractor will make your future plans easier.

Triple R - I see you are in Missouri, I am too. I am over towards STL in Washington / property in Labadie and am dealing with Schweissguth and my sales guy is top notch and very trustworthy. This is the second tractor I have bought from him and he has always treated me well.

I am quite a bit south of you and deal with Davis Farm Supply in Perryville and Fruitland. I have been very happy in my dealings with them. They are a small dealership, but sell a lot of tractors, this is my second tractor and lots of equipment. Dealerships are very important to me as there is a dealer in my area that I won't do business with at all.

Well as of this afternoon it is a done deal. I signed all the paperwork and I will be picking it up Saturday morning. I took it for a little spin this afternoon and she rides well and I can't wait.

I am going to have a couple of dump truck loads of rock delivered to my place Saturday to help improve my path I use to drive across my creek & culvert pipe. It also looks like it is ready to be brush hogged out there so I get several hours of seat time this weekend.

I'll take some pics before I get her dirty.

thanks again for the feedback.

here is how she is equipped;

L4740HST 4WD
Folding Rops
R-4 tires
LA854 quick attach loader
L2226 quick coupler
L2236 quick attach bucket
Landpride RCR1872 rotary cutter

What do you all think?

Paid $28,000 even.

Sounds good to me, I know you are going to love it. I have the older Grand L30 Series and have been very happy with it and the L40 have some more features than mine. You will be very pleasantly surprised by the power and maneuverability.

Did you get loaded tires or rear remotes?

I will most likely get the tires filled. What are rear remotes?

Rear remotes are hydraulic outlets to operate hydraulic cylinders.
1 set (2 ports or openings) of remotes will allow you to operate 1 cylinder.

2 sets of remotes will allow you to operate 1 cylinder.

Ahhh, figured it was hydraulic related. Thanks for the info. I actually have my tires filled on my BX1850 and it helps alot. Would you suggest that I have them go ahead and fill my tires on the new rig?

I have the rear tires filled on most all of my tractors. I do have an old Ford NAA without it as well as a Case, but they do not a a FEL and are only used for mowing. If it has a FEL, it gets filled.

I have one set of rear remotes on my L5030 and will add two more this winter when I am not using my tractor.

So what pieces of equipment need the rear hydraulic hook ups? I know I don't need them now but not sure about future needs.

I need to call and see if they can fill my tires tomorrow while they are getting it ready to be picked up.

I use mine for a hydraulic top link which really helps when attaching and adjusting equipment. I also have a wheeled 10' box blade and 10'6" Woods DS1260 rotary cutter.

What a timely post! I am in western Missouri. I just got a quote for nearly the same tractor, minus the cutter, for $30,500. This one, too, is laster years model. It has been on the dealers lot for a year, basking in the sun. The sheet metal paint looks pretty good. The wheel paint is very faded. The seat, armrest, and display casing is fairly oxidised.

I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on this purchase. What do you all think of the wheel paint fade?

Thanks,
Chris

If the price is right, I wouldn't worry about the paint. Like most any paint I am sure you can bring the shine back with just a little work. I think you will really like the tractor; looked at the 40 Series and was really impressed.

I would definitely get the rears filled, it will be much more stable. The deal
you got sounds good to me, our dealer had open house Sat. and I noticed a
4740 was $24,995 w/o a loader or bush hog.

I've had a L4740 HSTC-1 for just a year now and have been very happy with it. Purchased new with cab, loaded R-4 tires, HD bucket with cutting edge, and rear work lights was $31,500 in March 2009. No complaints thus far, and continue to be impressed with its power when pushing down trees and ripping out roots/stumps etc with a 7' Woods box blade. I would definitely load the rear tires. On more than one occasion I've lifted the ***-end of the tractor by picking up heavy objects with the 854 loader. And that's despite Rim-Guard in the rear tires and a 750lb box blade on the rear. The loader has lots of capacity. Only negative thing with the tractor happened today as a matter of fact and that's that I broke off the electrical connector on the transmission that apparently senses the travel speed. Ripping out some trees/brush and in passing over some ripped out material apparently a branch snagged the electrical connector and sheared it off. I noticed the wire hanging down after I had dismounted to dislodge some brush stuck in the box blade teeth. Tractor still ran fine and I couldn't detect anything that wasn't working regarding hi/lo speed, HST mode, etc -- but figured the better part of valor was to park the machine until I could figure out what the little do-hickey was. Went to my local dealer (3 mi away) and they informed me that it was the travel speed detector and I could have a brand new one for the low, low price of $79.04. Seems a little rich, but what else are you to do? Must admit I don't really pay that much attention to my travel speed, but probably will go ahead and order a new one to replace the broken one when I replace my SUDT in another 20 hrs. I did notice that the new -3 series Grand L's at the dealers now have a plate protecting the connector instead of the -1's just letting the ******** hang out there, so it's obviously been identified as a problem. Would be nice if Kubota would pony up the 80 bucks instead of me, but I'm not holding my breath. However, all in all, must say I'm still extremely happy with my purchase and the tractor will likely do all that you ask of it. Also have to say that I am SO glad that I got the cabbed version as everybody told me to do before I bought it. It more than once has kept a thorn tree branch from impaling me, and to sit in there working happily in AC comfort when it's in the high 80's with equally high humidity and a zillion mosquito's is worth the price of admission.
