I'm installing Predator 2 blades on my 62 d deck, does anyone have an opinion on whether or not I would still need the mulching kit that JD sells or would the blades surfice?

Those kinds of blades are not meant to be used with a mulch kit. Those are very similar to oregon G6 and G5 blades (though not as good as the g blades are), and Oregon has said many times over that they are for side discharging only. I use the G6's under my Z950 deck for part of the season (I mow for a living) and have for the last 3 years since they first came out so I do have some experience with them. IHTH

Thanks RG1, I appreciate your feedback.

The gator type blades will just make a gooey mess under the deck and leave clumps on the surface when used with a mulch kit unless you are taking off less than 2" and/or the grass is very dry.

With a mulch kit, the OEM wavy mulchers are almost impossible to beat. I use them even when side discharging most of the time, under my Z950 and my old 240 and 4115 w/60".

I just installed a set of Predator2 blades on my 42" D110 deck. The original blades had lasted 2.5 years and had been nearly destroyed due to using the rig to primarily finely break-up the horse 'droppings' in my paddocks (after first chain-harrowing). The ground is sandy but is getting very rich via this manure spreading method.

I am very impressed with these blades. A clean cut and the discharge distance has trebled! A$65 for the pair + my local Dealer said I should get double the life out of them.
